Join Leica Store Miami for a virtual artist talk with Miami photographer Ian Patrick O'Connor on Thursday, May 20th, 2021 at 7:30pm.

Ian Patrick O’Connor is a Miami based artist primarily working with
large format photography. O’Connor was born in Hollywood, Florida in
1982 and raised in the Florida Keys.
He studied photography at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale before
launching his career as a photographer documenting professional
skateboarders. O’Connor traveled extensively over a decade working as
a staff photographer for various magazines, and brands within the
skateboard industry.

In 2010, O’Connor moved to Santiago de Chile. During this transition
period he began to explore the camera as a medium for artistic
expression and creating work that resonated with him personally.
Upon returning to Miami in 2015, O’Connor committed to working
primarily with a large format 4x5 film camera.
Utilizing techniques from Minimalism he started to experiment with
esoteric ideas of color and art therapy. The primary objective of his
work is to grant the viewer a calming pause from the overstimulated
modern world and to evoke an overall sense of well being.

"My work is a delicate offering of gratitude for this human
experience. The bodies of work that I produce fall into two
categories: quiet spaces in a turbulent world and thought-out
ideas executed with a purpose.
As color carries information and has the ability to heal or
enhance one’s mood, it plays a major role in my work. I am also
provoked by the idea that physical finite objects carry unseen
positive energy, not visible to the eye but felt with the heart.
The combination of pleasing visual images and non-tangible
healing energy that is embedded into my work, reflects my
purpose as an artist. It is my intention to reach the audience
and to help them increase their harmonious state within.
The alchemy of light physically contacting the emulsion on film
is a main source of inspiration. Using primarily large format
film photography as my medium of choice, I continually strive to
master the craft from a technical standpoint to further enhance
the final outcome of the image."
